Kell Brook insists that stepping up two weight divisions for his fight against middleweight king Gennady Golovkin will not diminish his speed in the ring.

The reigning IBF world welterweight champion scaled at 176lbs at the 30-day check-weigh-in for the fight, nearly 30lbs heavier than 147lb welterweight limit.

The 30-year-old insists his increased weight will not have an adverse effect on his speed during the middleweight bout, which is scheduled to take place at the O2 Arena in London on September 10.

Brook told Sky Sports: “I’m normally heavy. Not as heavy as I am now but with the science behind it, I’ve been working my legs with the weights but keeping the speed and movement.

“I’ve been using all the ring and probably a bit too much, getting used to moving a lot because anything that can happen on the night.”

The Sheffield-born fighter, who is unbeaten in 36 professional bouts, knows he will be severely tested against his Kazakhstani opponent, who will put his WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight titles on the line during the bout.

He added: “I’m pushing myself to the limit. I’m working very hard and we’ve done some gruelling rounds.

Sparring partners are pushing me because I know I’m in for a really tough night on September 10. I’m making sure I’m doing it in the gym.”

Brook is available at 6.00 to secure a victory next month, while GGG is on offer at 1.14 and the tie is available at 26.00.
