Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez insists he is confident he has the skills needed to beat WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

The two popular fighters will meet in Las Vegas on November 21 but fans and punters are already claiming that Cotto’s experience will be too much. Cotto has won 40 fights so far in his career and only tasted defeat on four occasions.

The Puerto Rican has stopped 33 of his opponents inside the distance and trainer Freddie Roach claims they already have the game-plan needed to win.

Alvarez may be younger but he has already won 45 fights, 32 inside the distance, despite being just 25. He destroyed James Kirkland inside three rounds in Texas back in May, while Cotto defended his WBC title with a four-round stoppage win over Daniel Geale.

Sceptics claim Cotto’s knowledge inside the ring will be too much for his opponent, but Alvarez is feeling confident ahead of the fight.

He told thaboxingvoice.com, “He can say many things and that’s fine but the only ones who are going to know are me and him. We’ll be in that ring and we’ll see what happens on fight night.

“I might be a young fighter but I also have a lot of experience so I don’t think it’s an advantage for either side.

“We are going to analyse videos of everything. The wins, the losses, everything. That’s how we’re going to come up with our game plan. If I can utilise anything, I’ll utilise it.

“There are no secrets – I’ve been fighting around 154lbs and 155lbs so I feel comfortable at this weight. This is my weight class.”
