Nathan Cleverly says Juergen Braehmer has the offer of a rematch after the German lost his WBA world light-heavyweight title in his own backyard on Saturday night.

Cleverly, who was aiming to become a two-time world champion, produced a fantastic performance as he took the fight to his 37-year-old opponent right from the off.

The 29-year-old landed some huge body shots in the opening round before executing a brilliant uppercut in the second to take the early advantage in the bout.

Braehmer started to come back in the third round with some powerful shots before the two fighters shared the fourth in what was a nip and tuck fight.

However, drama was to unfold at the end of round six, when the defending champion stood up from his corner and walked over to congratulate his British opponent.

The German was holding an icepack and was forced to withdraw from the contest after reportedly dislocating his elbow.

Victory for Cleverly has put the Welshman firmly back on the map, having clinched the world title for the second time, and he has revealed there is a chance the pair will go head-to-head again.

“He’s been a great champion but he’s 37 years of age now and it’s time for a younger man to take the title now,” he said. “It’s time for a new champion.

If he wants the rematch we’ve got a clause if he really wants it. “Ultimately, I broke Braehmer up in the first six rounds.

It was only going one way but if he wants a rematch, we’ll do it.”

Cleverly has made up for the defeat to Andrzej Fonfara for the WBC International Light Heavyweight title last year and thoughts will be turning towards potentially bigger fights in the future.
