Middleweight star Gennady Golovkin has admitted that he is in for a tough night when he takes on unbeaten British star Kell Brook.
Brook had been chasing a fight with Amir Khan once again this year but the Bolton star decided to jump up two weights to take on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
The Sheffield fighter has now decided to follow a similar path and will jump up from the 147lb division to take on the hard-hitting Golovkin.
GGG and Brook will meet on September 10 at London’s 02 Arena and the WBA Super, WBO, WBC and IBF champion has admitted he was surprised with Brook’s size.
The Kazakstan fighter has cruised through the middleweight ranks so far but he concedes he could be in for a tough night next month.
He told Sky Sports: “The first time I looked at him I thought: ‘Wow! 147? No way!’. “He is my size, like he’s at 160. I am not a big guy so it is very close for us.
Right now I realise he is a true test and the biggest test for us. It’s a big present for me but now I realise this is a big present for everyone.
“This is the biggest test for me. It is not a big difference because he is the same size, he’s strong and I think he has a different boxing style and speed – but there isn’t a lot of difference.”
Golovkin is the 1.14 favourite to win the fight, while the draw is priced at 26.00, with Brook available at odds of 6.00 with Dafabet.
