This Saturday the UFC will give us a very entertaining heavyweight fight between Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov. Gane has a small professional MMA record of 8-0 (5-0 in the UFC) but he’s a familiar name for Muay Thai fans (a former champion in that discipline). ‘Bon Gamin’ went a perfect 7-0 in Muay Thai before transitioning into MMA and he’s used to competing at the highest level throughout his career.

A former TKO heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane has six wins by either KO/TKO or submission in his career. Tanner Boser at UFC Fight Night 165 on December 21st, 2019 and Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC Vegas 20 on February 27th are the only fighters able to take Gane to the judge’s scorecards. Gane won a unanimous decision against Rozenstruik in his last fight.

Alexander Volkov is a former M-1 Global and Bellator heavyweight champion from Moscow, Russia and he’s been a professional since 2009. Volkov comes to this fight with plenty of experience and a decent 6-1 record since joining the UFC in 2016. He has a Tsu Shin Gen background that helps him use diverse striking techniques that not many heavyweight fighters know.

‘Drago’ also has a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt but his three wins by submission tell us that he doesn’t use those skills much during his matches. He’s been working on his wrestling though and he has won three of his last four fights (two via TKO). Volkov is coming off a second-round TKO win against Alistair Overeem at UFC Vegas 18 on February 6th.
