World-class jockey Ryan Moore will ride Giovanni Canaletto in the Investec Derby at Epsom on Saturday.

Aidan O’Brien’s colt finished second on his seasonal bow in the Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh last month and has received plenty of support since.

Giovanni Canaletto will now have the assistance of Moore in the premier Classic and trainer O’Brien could not be happier heading into the race.

“I’m very happy, he was coming home very well,” O’Brien said referring to his run in the Group 3 at the Curragh. “Obviously it was only a couple of weeks ago.

“We had planned that he would go to Chester but we didn’t get him there in time, he seems to be in very good form.

“Obviously it’s a little quicker than ideal but he seems to have come out of the race in good form. We were very happy, our horse finished very well. Maybe the line just came a shade too early but our horse ran a great race.”

Coolmore have also confirmed that Joseph O’Brien will ride stablemate Kilimanjaro, while Hans Holbein is the mount of Seamie Heffernan.

Moore will also ride the O’Brien-trained Tapestry in the Investec Coronation Cup.

In Giovanni Canaletto’s absence, stablemate Hans Holbein claimed the Chester Vase, banishing any fears O’Brien had over his stamina.

“He’s a horse that looked like getting a mile and a half well, wouldn’t mind an ease in the ground and like I said probably will end up getting further than a mile and a half,” O’Brien added.
