Trainer Roger Varian has confirmed he will be double-handed for the Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, with Qabala and Mot Juste raring to go ahead of next week’s race.

Qabala heads the ante-post betting at odds of 4.00 after two wins from two races so far.

The bay filly won at Newmarket in September before returning to HQ last week and winning under jockey David Egan. Egan will retain the ride for next week’s big race, while Mot Juste will be partnered by William Buick.

The three-year-old has won two races from five but has not placed outside the top two since September 2018. Both pleased Varian in a workout on Friday morning and he has confirmed their places in the fillies’ Classic over the Rowley Mile next weekend.

“Having come through their work from yesterday morning very well, we are delighted to confirm that Qabala and Mot Juste are very much on course to run in the 1000 Guineas next weekend,” the Newmarket trainer told www.varianstable.com.

“David Egan will maintain his partnership with the Group Three Nell Gwyn winner Qabala in the Guineas – and with Andrea Atzeni suspended for the meeting, we are very pleased to be able to secure William Buick to partner Mot Juste. “Runner-up in the Nell Gwyn, Mot Juste was ridden by William when winning the Group Three Oh So Sharp Stakes at the track as a two-year-old.”

Just Wonderful is one of Qabala’s main rivals at odds of 8.00, while Skitter Scatter is also available at the same price.
