Solow Qatar Sussex Stakes

Peter Chapple-Hyam feels that Sol-ow and not Gleneagles is the most likely winner of the Qatar Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

The Newmarket handler is set pitch his improving miler Arod in against two of Europe’s best in Solow and Gleneagles.

Aidan O’Brien’s colt Gleneagles has landed both the English and Irish 2000 Guineas this season while he gave arguably his most impressive performance to date when powering to victory in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

Freddy Head’s globetrotting Solow meanwhile has already racked up Group One wins in Dubai, France and England this season.

Solow proved himself to be effective at a mile when decisively winning the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot and according to Chapple-Hyam, he is the big danger going to Goodwood.

Chapple-Hyam feels the fact the Ballydoyle colt has had three testing races already this season could prove to be his undoing.

“Solow has been a revelation, he’s just a very good horse and Gleneagles gets the 8lb weight difference,” Chapple-Hyam told At The Races.

“He had a hard race in the Irish Guineas, but put it to bed very quickly on ground he didn’t like.

“I was impressed with him at Ascot, but he’s a three-year-old and he’s had three hardish races.

“I think Solow is probably the one to beat because he’s done it all.”

Arod is set to take on the leading duo and his trainer is hoping the rain stays away between now and race day.

“The faster the ground the better, he loves it,” he said. “When there’s any cut in the ground he’s not the same horse.”

Arod is priced at 17.00 to win the Sussex Stakes with Gleneagles installed as the 1.67 favourite ahead of Solow at 2.75.
