Jockey Colm O’Donoghue admits he cannot wait to ride Alpha Centauri in the Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.

The grey filly is the hot favourite to win the race at odds of 1.62 after impressive back-to-back victories this season.

The three-year-old opened the season with a 10th-placed finish at Leopardstown before then winning the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh and then the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Jessica Harrington’s charge smashed the track record at Royal Ascot and connections are confident she will have too much for her rivals.

Speaking ahead of the race, O’Donoghue told reporters: “Luckily I rode her the other morning, so I haven’t had to wait that long to get back on her.

“She came out of Ascot well, thank god, and seems in very good form so I’m very much looking forward to it.

“I was always very comfortable throughout the Coronation, it was just a matter of how the race unfolded.

She’d always shown us an immense amount of ability so I wasn’t surprised she could travel through it like that.

“Obviously because of how strong the field that she beat looked, it was really very impressive.”

Threading is set to be her closest rival at odds of 7.00, while Clemmie is next in the market at 8.00.

Nyaleti, Opal Tiara and Altyn Orda will also run while the outsider for Friday’s race remains Arabian Hope at odds of 21.00.
