Barry Irwin insists that Animal Kingdom can live up to his reputation.

Barry Irwin insists the team is feeling confident that Animal Kingdom can live up to his reputation when he steps out for the curtain raiser at Ascot on Tuesday.

Animal Kingdom is the firm favourite to take home the Queen Anne Stakes and add to his already impressive record after making the journey across from America.

The 2011 Kentucky Derby winner sealed the Dubai World Cup in March and has continued to show great form as he aims to show British enthusiasts what he can do.

There was some concern as to whether the five-year-old would be a threat on a straight mile, but his trainer insists that preparations have gone to plan.

Training out of Lambourn while in the UK he has adapted his style to ensure he is able to repeat the feats he has achieved overseas.

Irwin said: “I was pretty apprehensive about running.

“But then I saw the horse work at Ascot and on the straight course in Lambourn and now I feel pretty confident.

“The best race he’s run is the Breeders’ Cup Mile and he had trouble there. If he has a normal race he is going to win. I think it’s our race to lose.”
