Trainer Ron Harris admits he is already planning for 2017 after watching Just Glamorous produce a disappointing performance during Sunday’s Prix de l’Abbaye.

The three-year-old was expected to produce a big run over the weekend after enjoying several strong runs at the start of the year.

Just Glamorous had started 2016 with four places from as many races before winning three events in a row at Haydock, Sandown and York.

After failing to kick on in his next two outings, the chestnut gelding then broke the track record in a Group Three last month.

He beat Marsha on that occasion and connections were expecting a big run in the Prix de l’Abbaye but Harris admits they will now wait until next year before unleashing him again.

“I don’t know what it was, whether something spooked him but we should have expected what happened after that as it is most unlike him,” said Harris.

“Whether it came at the end of a long season, I don’t know. Pierre said he felt flat.

“I was wondering if he didn’t like the quick ground, as it was quite quick apart from the first furlong and a half, and also, even though we thought we’d got a great draw, only Mecca’s Angel was in the first eight from a single-figure stall.

“He definitely wasn’t the same horse as the time before – he beat Marsha by three lengths. It’s disappointing but we’ve got a horse for next year and we’ll start dreaming of that now.”
