Tony Finau has been confirmed as Jim Furyk’s final captain’s pick for Team USA ahead of this month’s Ryder Cup in France.

The 12-man side is now set, barring any injuries in the next two weeks as Furyk prepares his team for the trip to France.

Furyk confirmed Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau as his wildcard picks last week, to add to his eight automatic qualifiers.

Finau has now been given the nod over Xander Schauffele following the final round of the BMW Championship on Monday. Keegan Bradley won the event but it was Finau who was left celebrating as well after the final hole.

Confirming his pick, Furyk said in an official statement: “He has an unbelievable body of work this year. All those top-10 finishes, the play in big championships and the majors, and then his current form, a second, a fourth and an eighth in the Play-Offs.

“He checked a lot of boxes and made it impossible not to pick him.” Finau had been the clear favourite to claim the final place after his sensational results this season.

He recorded top-10 finishes in three of the four majors but he has not won a tournament since 2016. The 28-year-old has recorded two runner-up finishes this year at the Genesis Open and The Northern Trust.

Team USA are 1.80 favourites for the tournament, with Europe 2.25. A close tournament is expected at Le Golf National and the tie is priced at 11.00.
