Si Woo Kim holds a two-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Wyndham Championship after coming within inches of carding a round of 59 on Friday.
The South Korean began his round on the back nine, and he carded seven birdies from his opening nine holes, before producing an eagle at the par-five fifth.
The 21-year-old then picked up a further gain at his penultimate hole to move onto 12-under-par for the tournament, and he needed a birdie at the last to secure a round of 59, but his long-range putt slipped past the edge of the cup.
Kim was looking to become the second man in a matter of weeks to card a sub-60 round, following Jim Furyk’s impressive 58 at the Travelers Championship earlier this month, but he will instead have to settle for a two-shot lead at Sedgefield Country Club.
Lucas Glover is one of four players, along with Furyk, in a tie for second place on ten-under, after he too came close to carding a sub-60 score.
The former US Open champion also needed a birdie on his final hole to shoot a score of 59, but he left his putt short, before eventually bogeying the hole to finish with a round of 61.
Kim is available at 6.50 to claim his first victory on the PGA Tour in North Carolina, while Glover is priced at 15.00 to secure overall glory.
