Marc Leishman says he is “really pumped” to be paired alongside former world number one Tiger Woods once again this season at this week’s Quicken Loans National in Maryland.
This week’s PGA Tour event takes place at TPC Potomac and there is another star-studded field ready to tee it up, with Rickie Fowler the 8.00 favourite to lift the trophy on Sunday evening.
Australian Leishman is yet to pick up a win this year although he has managed five top-10 finishes, with the best result coming at the AT&T Byron Nelson where he ended up second.
The 34-year-old has been thrown in with Woods for the first two rounds of the tournament and this will be the second time they have played together this year, having contested the first 36 holes of the Masters alongside each other back in April.
Many players could wilt under the pressure of playing next to the 14-time Major champion but Leishman, who won twice on the American circuit last year, is hoping to thrive on this pairing.
“I think it’s a really good opportunity for me to show what I’ve got while all the cameras and focus is on our group; I’m really pumped for it,” he was quoted as saying by SBS News.
“It’s a big compliment from the PGA Tour to pick me as someone they think can not just handle Tiger’s massive crowds and the pressure, but also be a good addition to the group who plays well.”
Woods, who missed the cut at the US Open last time out, is second in the market at 13.00 to win the tournament whilst Leishman and Italian Francesco Molinari are both priced at 19.00 to claim all the spoils.
