Louis Oosthuizen says he is feeling quietly confident about his chances of winning a second Open Championship at St Andrews this week.
The softly spoken South African carried all before him in 2010, firing rounds of 65, 67, 69 and 71 to finish seven shots clear of Lee Westwood.
He now returns to the Old Course looking to claim a second Claret Jug, but it is American Jordan Spieth who is expected to take the title following his wins at the Masters and the US Open, in the absence of defending champion Rory McIlroy.
Despite a disastrous opening 77, Oosthuizen finished in a tie for second behind Spieth last month at Chambers Bay and after some injury issues over the last few years, appears to be back to his best.
The 32-year-old admits he is feeling good about his return to the Old Course and is hoping his experience from five years ago will stand him in good stead.
He said: “My game is in decent shape, but the thing with golf is that form comes and goes and you just have to make the most of it when you’re playing well.
“St Andrews is a very special place with many great memories and I always love returning.
“It will give me the confidence knowing what I’ve done here and that I can play this golf course. But you still need to go out and make a good score, play good golf around this track.”
Oosthuizen is currently priced at 21.00 to win at St Andrews this week, with Spieth the 7.00 favourite followed by Dustin Johnson at 12.00.
