Henrik Stenson feels the FedEx Cup is gaining more prestige and appeal for the stars of the PGA Tour with each passing year.

The PGA Tour season culminates with a four-event play-off series that whittles the field down to just 30 contenders for the Tour Championship finale in Atlanta. By the end of the week at East Lake, the FedEx Cup winner is crowned and he walks away with a $10m bonus and the cup.

Stenson took the crown in 2013 and he ranks on a list of winners that includes Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Jordan Spieth as the event nears its tenth anniversary. The Swede, who won his first major championship at The Open in July, says the FedEx is growing each year and he is proud to count himself amongst the early winners.

“I think it’s just going to get stronger and stronger, and it’s going to mean more and more each year to have your name on that trophy,” Stenson told the PGA Tour website.

“I’ve got my name on the FedEx Cup trophy – and 20, 30 years down the line, it’s pretty sweet to be one of the first ones on there.”

While the race for FedEx Cup points runs all year long, the scoring rates increase during the play-off series that brings the event to the boil for East Lake. Stenson feels the correct balance is now in place to ensure that form over the entire season counts.

“I feel like in the last three, four years, we’ve really had the right balance in how much you can start moving up if you get on a hot streak, and if you don’t play your best, what you’ve done up to the FedEx Play-offs is not going to vanish completely, either,” he added.

“It’s one of the bigger things you can win in golf. It’s definitely one of the biggest things that I’ve won, for sure.”

Stenson is 17.00 to claim this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship, an event he won in 2013 and finished runner-up in 12 months ago.
