Davis Love III has backed Rickie Fowler, JB Holmes and Matt Kuchar to justify his faith in them after confirming the trio as his first three wildcard picks for the Ryder Cup.

The Team USA captain revealed his decision on Monday and they will now take their places when the biennial event gets underway at Hazeltine on September 30.

All three have previous Ryder Cup experience, with Fowler playing in the defeats in 2010 and 2014, while Kuchar also played in those losses, as well as at Medinah in 2012.

Holmes has tasted success in the event, winning two-and-a-half out of the three points available to him at Valhalla in 2008.

The trio all went close to qualifying automatically and will now be looking to justify the faith shown in them by the skipper.

Love still has one more pick to announce, which he will confirm after the Tour Championship on September 25.

The 52-year-old admits he and his support staff had some tense conversations over who they were going to pick but is confident they have selected three men who can have a hugely positively effect on the team.

“There were questions as late as last night but we kept coming back to these three,” Love told a press conference. “We were really close two weeks ago to this but it took us until last night to finish it off.

“This was a tough decision and we have another tough decision coming up in two weeks.”

The USA are currently the 1.53 favourites to win their first Ryder Cup since 2008 at Hazeltine, while Europe are priced at 2.80 and the Tie 11.00.
