England midfielder Eric Dier is confident he will continue improving after agreeing a new five-year deal with Tottenham.

The 22-year-old joined Spurs in the summer of 2014 from Sporting Lisbon and scored the winner on his debut against West Ham.

However, having arrived at White Hart Lane as predominantly a defender, he has emerged as a fine holding midfielder following Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to move him forward last year.

Since then he has played a key role in Spurs’ ultimately unsuccessful title challenge in 2015-16, while also establishing himself in the England team.

Dier was one of the few Three Lions players to emerge from Euro 2016 with any credit and he has even been suggested as a potential future captain of the national team.

The player himself has remained grounded and says the chance to keep improving under Pochettino was one of the key reasons behind his decision to sign the new deal, which will keep him at the club until 2021.

With a young side on the books and a new stadium in the works, Spurs appear a team on the up and the midfielder says he is delighted to extended his stay.

“There are many reasons why I wanted to commit my future to Tottenham,” he told the club’s official website.

“We have a fantastic squad, full of lots of young exciting players, the new stadium is on its ways and obviously the fantastic facilities here at the training ground.

“Then of course we have a fantastic manager who is great for all of our young players and makes sure we keep improving.”

Tottenham are due to kick-off their Champions League campaign on Wednesday against Monaco, a game they are 1.73 to win, with the draw 3.80 and the French side 5.00.
