Daniel Berger admits he will do everything in his power to secure a spot on the US Ryder Cup team for Hazeltine National next month.

The 2015 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year has one win under his belt so far this year and is joint-leader at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands after two rounds.

The 23-year-old secured his breakthrough Tour win in June at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, holding off Ryder Cup veteran Phil Mickelson as well as US vice-captain Steve Stricker as some of his closest challengers.

He knows that adding another victory via the Travelers Championship would greatly enhance his chances of making it onto Davis Love’s team.

Berger is currently 18th in the United States Ryder Cup standings, with just the top eight securing automatic spots for the clash with Europe in Minnesota.

Performing as strong as he can over the coming weeks could enhance his hopes of earning a captain’s pick and Berger says that is already on his mind.

“In terms of the Ryder Cup, I’m just doing everything I can to earn a spot on my own,”

Berger said, “but obviously I would never turn down a pick. “I don’t know who would.

But yeah, I’m just playing the best I can, and whatever happens happens.” Berger has been rock solid from tee-to-green through two rounds in the Travelers Championship.

The key to winning this weekend, he feels, could be in making some more putts on the greens.

“I haven’t missed many greens this week and rolled in a few putts, but obviously going to have to play a little better on the weekend to have a good chance,” he added.

Berger can be backed at 8.00 to win the Travelers Championship, while the USA are 1.67 to regain the Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.
