According to reports from Die Welt newspaper, Red Bull driver Mark Webber has been handed a new deal by team chief Dietrich Mateschitz.

The Australian has endured a turbulent time during his six years with Red Bull following some high-profile public fall-outs with team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

It was thought that Webber may call time on his professional career at the end of this current campaign after his most recent incident with the German.

The 36-year-old was left feeling frustrated after the three-time world champion ignored team orders to over-take and take the victory in the second Grand Prix of the season in Malaysia.

Red Bull are still to confirm the contract renewal but if he decides to stay it will bring an end to the hopes of Daniel Ricciardo, Jean-Eric Vergne and Kimi Raikkonen, who were all vying to partner Vettel.

The former Williams man currently sits in fifth place in the Drivers’ Championship, trailing some way behind his Vettel who again leads overall.
