McLaren’s Jenson Button is determined to continue his team’s strong start to the season as they prepare for the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday.

A two-three on the podium for Kevin Magnussen and Button respectively behind Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg has left McLaren at the top of the Constructors’ Championship at the end of the first round.

The Silver Arrows look like they will take some stopping if they are going to be denied the title this year but McLaren, who are 10.00 to win the Constructors’ Championship, have shown they are going to be pushing the favourites hard.

Button was pleased with how things went in Melbourne but is now fully focused on making sure it’s another successful weekend at Sepang.

He said: “Australia was a really motivational race for the entire team – even though we still have work to do, it feels like we’ve turned a corner, and that we have a racecar we can definitely work with this year.

“It’s important that we keep pushing hard on the development front – we brought some useful upgrades to Melbourne, and it was encouraging that they worked straight out of the box, but it’s essential that we keep pushing new items through the development pipeline, especially at these flyaway races, where it’s harder to bring new parts to the circuit.”

Button is 17.00 to take the chequered flag at Sepang but the far more attractive prospects in the betting are Lewis Hamilton and Rosberg, who are 2.80 and 3.40 respectively to claim the win.
