Fernando Alonso is confident McLaren can impress in 2015 and he believes the partnership with Honda will prove to be a successful one.

Alonso rejoined McLaren over the winter after leaving Ferrari and he believes his new team are showing encouraging signs after the first pre-season test in Jerez.

McLaren have linked up with engine suppliers Honda ahead of the 2015 season and Alonso sees this as a positive move.

“The mentality is very open and the design of the car is quite different from the last couple of years with the arrival of Peter [Prodromou, ex-Red Bull designer] as well,” he is quoted as saying by ESPN.

“Honda after 22 years coming back, too, so the whole team is believing in the project and excited to do well. The commitment is maximum from everyone and that’s a fantastic feeling.”

“Definitely, I see a lot of potential,” he added when asked about Honda’s ability to compete in 2015.

“I’m delighted to work with the Honda guys and saw from the first day how passionate they were about motor racing in general.”

Alonso will partner Jenson Button at McLaren in 2015 after replacing Kevin Magnussen, who will now be the reserve driver with the team next season.

Mercedes star and defending world champion Lewis Hamilton is 1.70 to win the Drivers’ Championship outright in 2015, while The Field can be backed at 2.16.
