Nico Rosberg felt that everything went ‘perfectly’ for him at the Austrian Grand Prix as he took the chequered flag to close the gap on Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

The 29-year-old made it back-to-back victories at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday to reduce the gap to Hamilton once again.

The German picked up victory in Austria last season in the middle of a purple patch but could not hold off the competition from his team-mate, who went on to claim the world title.

Hamilton qualified for Sunday’s event on pole but was well-beaten by Rosberg who took the advantage on turn one. The Brit attempted to reclaim first spot but saw his chance disappear as the safety car came out following a crash between Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso.

The defending world champion saw his hopes hit further later on in the race when he was hit with a penalty for a small pit-lane misdemeanour.

However, Hamilton still came home in second ahead of the Williams of Felipe Massa, but saw his lead at the top of the standings cut to just 10 points.

Rosberg admitted it was a great feeling to triumph again in Austria, adding that he was delighted with his performance.
The German said: “It is an awesome feeling to win again here.

“The start made the race, it was a great start. I managed to defend in the first corners and then pushed this time. I was happy to see the gap open to Lewis and it worked out perfectly today.”
