Barcelona manager Xavi has admitted that his team is now within touching distance of the La Liga title after pipping ten-man Osasuna with a late goal on Tuesday.

The Blaugrana have played 33 matches and have just five matches left this season in La Liga by virtue of the Victory led Real Madrid with 14 points, while the Los Blancos faced Real Sociedad at halftime of that game at San Sebastian.

A Real Madrid loss would mean Barcelona needs just two points from their remaining five games to clinch the title or secure a victory in their next La Liga game against Espanyol on the fourteenth of May.

After a tough first half to the game, Xavi was delighted to pick six points from their last two games after losing to Rayo Vallecano in shocking result weeks back. However, the former Barcelona midfielder is already looking forward to a confirmation of their title win.

“I think we suffered too much. We have missed very clear chances. They defended well, but in the end, Jordi’s goal arrived. It’s a very important step. La Liga is almost won. These six points (Real Betis and Osasuna) were very important to us after the defeat in Vallecas. Now we’re waiting for what happens in San Sebastián. These six points are a giant step.” Xavi said

Barcelona’s final five games of the La Liga season will see them face Espanyol, Real Sociedad, Real Valladolid, Mallorca, and Celta Vigo on the final day of the season.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will play the Copa Del Rey final at the weekend while facing Manchester City next week in the UEFA Champions League semifinal for a chance at a double despite missing La Liga.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti was without a suspended Vinicius Junior and rested Karim Benzema against Real Sociedad.
