Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has conceded that his team’s winning goal against Blackburn Rovers was a handball.

Gary Bowyer’s men started the Championship campaign with a defeat but there was plenty of controversy surrounding the decisive goal.

Wolves opened the scoring just shy of the half-hour mark through Benik Afobe but Rovers levelled through Craig Conway six minutes before the break.

However, Bowyer’s men ended up with nothing at Ewood Park after midfielder David Edwards seemed to handle Nouha Dicko’s cross before the ball ended up in the net on the stroke of half-time.

Rovers keeper David Raya continued to protest but the decision was allowed to stand and Jackett has confirmed his side was fortunate to win in those circumstances.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “It hit his hand, ball to hand. I wouldn’t say it was deliberate but yes it definitely made contact.

“It was a whipped cross in and he’s gone to head it… you can’t have your arms by your side at that point but did it hit his hand? Yes it did.

“It was a great three points away from home. I thought we had spells of possession where we looked very good and the diamond midfield gave us an overload and really helped us in spells.

“We do need to improve that, but as I said, we had spells where we did look a good team and we want to base our game on that and try to take that forward.”

Rovers will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to the John Smith’s Stadium to face Huddersfield who also tasted defeat on the opening day, losing 2-0 at Hull.
