Arsenal are believed to be lining up a new deal to keep manager Arsene Wenger at the Emirates beyond next summer.

The veteran tactician’s current deal at the north London outfit is coming towards an end, with plenty of speculation surrounding the 63-year-old’s future with the Gunners.

Following an opening day 3-1 defeat on home soil to Aston Villa, there were calls for Wenger to be replaced in the Arsenal hot seat.

Since then, however, the Gunners have climbed up to fourth in the Premier League table, progressed through to the Champions League group stages, have beaten arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur and have acquired the services of star Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil.

With things on the up for Arsenal, the board are believed to be considering offering Wenger a new bumper contract and a £40m January transfer fund to sweeten the deal.

Wenger has been linked with moves to the likes of Real Madrid and most recently Paris Saint-Germain during his tenure in the English capital but the experienced manager has never hinted that he would be interested in leaving a team and a club he has made his own.

With time running down on his contract, a deal could be done in the coming weeks to make sure Wenger’s future is secure and allow him to continue getting positive results on the field.

The Gunners will be hoping to climb further up the Premier League table on Saturday when they make the trip to the north east to face struggling Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
