Aston Villa have been rocked by the news joint leading goalscorer Libor Kozak will miss the rest of the season after breaking his leg in training on Thursday.

Paul Lambert’s side have been struggling for goals throughout the campaign and even though Kozak has been far from prolific, his injury still comes as a big blow to the Midlands club.

A brief statement on the club’s website read: “The Club can confirm that Libor Kozak suffered a broken leg today in training.

“He will undergo surgery tomorrow and, regretfully, he will play no further part this season.”

Along with Christian Benteke, the Czech Republic international has scored four goals this season, but has not found the back of the net since the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle back in September.

Lambert would have been looking to draft in another striker during the January transfer window to address the goal situation anyway but will now probably look to sign two in light of Kozak?s injury.

As things stand the goalscoring responsibility sits firmly on the shoulders of Benteke, although Lambert may take heart from the fact the once prolific Gabriel Adgbonlahor was back among the goals last time out.

Agbonlahor struck in the 1-0 win at Sunderland on New Year’s Day to end Aston Villa‘s five-game winless run and Lambert needs more of the same.

Villa are sitting in midtable in the Premier League but need to start finding the back of the net on a more regular basis or risk getting sucked into another relegation battle.
