A brace of goals by Arturo Vidal against Sampdoria helped Juventus to open up an eight-point lead again at the top of the Serie A table.

The Chilean international scored twice in the first half, the second coming from the penalty spot just before the interval as Juventus pressed for a 12 straight league win.

The visitors did not fold easily though, and having pulled one back through an own goal by Andrea Barzagli after Fernando Llorente had added to Vidal’s opener, they made things interesting in the second half by reducing the arrears further thanks to Manolo Gabbiadini who also saw a long-range effort crash back off the bar.

It was left to Paul Pogba to finish Sampdoria off when, with just 12 minutes left, he scored a cracker that flew into the roof of the net to make it 4-2 and restore the home side’s eight-point lead at the top.

Vidal praised Sampdoria’s effort afterwards, saying: “Samp are a team that came to our place and gave us a game. I think they can do good things over the rest of the season,” he said.

“It’s a tough league. Roma and Napoli both have great players, but we need to carry on the way we’ve been doing up to now right to the end and hopefully we’ll get our third title.”

With Roma hammering Livorno 3-0 on Saturday, and Napoli still in contention, Juventus fans cannot afford to celebrate just yet, but few will argue that the title is theirs to lose.
