Tottenham striker Harry Kane insists he’s still confident in his own ability, despite failing to hit the back of the net in the early stages of the 2016-17 campaign.

Kane’s last goal for club or country came for England in the Euro 2016 warm-up game against Turkey in May and he has since come in for some stern criticism.

The 23-year-old misfired for the Three Lions at the European Championships in France this summer, while has failed to open his account for Spurs this season in three Premier League outings.

England manager Sam Allardyce showed his faith in the striker on Sunday but Kane was unable to find the breakthrough in the World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

The striker suffered a similar drought at the start of last term as he had to wait until the first international break to get his first goal.

However, despite making a stuttering start to last season, he still went on to finish with the Premier League golden boot as he saw off strong competition from compatriot Jamie Vardy and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

Kane says he’s paying no attention to the doubters as he expects to prove them wrong when he gets up-and-running for Tottenham, who are priced at 2.40 to finish in the top-four again this season.

“Unfortunately there was a lot of talk last year and I managed to prove a lot of people wrong, so people will talk this year as well,” Kane said.

“It’s part of football. It’s what they’re doing. I am confident in my ability. I know that if I continue doing what I am doing the goals will come, that is all I can do.

“I think I didn’t score in my first seven or eight games and then to go on and win the golden boot proves that it was just a matter of time.

People might talk now or if I don’t score in the next five or six games, it doesn’t bother me.

I am a confident player. “I know if I keep doing what I am doing I will score goals and that is what I am going to do.”
