Australian international Tom Rogic admits that Brendan Rodgers played a big part in his decision to commit his future to Celtic.
The midfielder put pen-to-paper on a new three-year-deal with the Scottish champions that keeps him at Parkhead until 2019 before admitting the opportunity to develop and learn his trade under Rodgers’ eye was a big motivating factor.
Rogic joined Celtic back in 2013 from Central Coast Mariners in his homeland and, while he struggled at times under Ronny Deila to make an impression – even going back to the A-League on loan – there were signs of progress last season.
The 23-year-old now has 57 first-team appearances and ten goals on his CV as a Hoops player and he told the club’s official website of his delight at extending his stay in Glasgow now that Rodgers is in charge.
“The manager’s had a very positive impact on the club so far and I’m sure we will continue to build on that,” Rogic said.
“It’s a great time to be at the club, and for me to have my future sorted and know that I’m going to be working with the manager for the coming seasons is great.”
Rogic must battle with the likes of skipper Scott Brown, Stefan Johannsen, Stuart Armstrong and James Forrest for a starting spot in the Celtic team.
He feels he can learn from former Liverpool boss Rodgers and further develop his skills, and admits it was a boost knowing the new manager was keen to retain his services from the outset.
“The manager’s had a say in me re-signing here, and he has played a big role in me deciding to stay here, and you can tell he’s a top-class manager,” he added.
“I still feel that I have a lot to give and I know that, under him, I can develop and progress and contribute to the team’s success.”
