Tom Heaton is adamant Burnley can build on their Championship-winning campaign and ensure they continue their success in the Premier League this season.

Burnley have been something of a yo-yo club over the past few years, having suffered two promotions and one relegation in their last three seasons.

The Clarets finished second in the English second tier in 2014 before dropping straight back down from the top flight when ending up in 18th place the following campaign.

However, Sean Dyche’s men showed great resolve and determination last term to win the Championship and go straight back to the promised land.

There is a real hope within the club that they will be able to cement themselves in the Premier League this time round although many are still expecting a tough battle against relegation for the Turf Moor-based outfit.

Heaton, who was part of England’s Euro 2016 squad, will be a key figure for the first team and will undoubtedly need to produce some top-class performances.

The captain, who penned a new four-year contract in pre-season, says it was pleasing to have achieved recent goals that were set and believes the players can now kick on.

He said: “It’s nice to have that in the bag now for me and the club, and there’s far more to come, far more we want to achieve and hopefully we can do that.”

Burnley open their campaign at home to Swansea City on August 13 and the hosts are the marginal 2.50 favourites to get off to a winning start.

Their Welsh opponents, who recently allowed France international Bafetimbi Gomis to join Marseille on a year-long loan, are priced at 2.88 while the draw is at 3.10.
