Sunderland Gus Poyet has joked that only ‘flu on the night before the game could stop Liverpool striker Luis Suarez ahead of their Premier League clash at Anfield on Wednesday.

The Black Cats boss might not be too far from the truth with his comments, as his fellow Uruguayan Suarez has been unplayable at times this season.

With 28 goals to his name in the Premier League this term, the former Ajax forward is just one goal away from breaking Robbie Fowler’s record and few would bet against Suarez completing the feat before the end of the campaign.

With a hat-trick in his last outing against Cardiff City, the 27-year-old is in red hot form going into the encounter with Sunderland at Anfield.

Poyet is fully aware of what Suarez is capable of and hopes he has got his tactics right in stopping his fellow Uruguayan, with Sunderland at 15.00 to head to back to the north east with a shock victory.

He told El Observador: “The only way we can stop Luis is if he gets flu the night before and has a fever.

“The tactic will be to take him to the spaces in which he doesn’t like to play. But Luis always manages to get out of those places, he never plays in the same way and there isn’t a magic way to stop him.”

It’s hard to see past Liverpool getting the win and with a -2 goal start at 2.05 in the betting, the Reds should comfortably come out on top.
