Experienced midfielder Steven Defour is looking forward to a new chapter in his career after signing a three-year contract with Premier League outfit Burnley.

Defour has been a Clarets transfer target throughout the summer window and they have finally been able to land their man for a club-record fee.

The Belgium international arrives at Turf Moor from Anderlecht and he boasts considerable experience, having also played for Genk, Standard Liege and Porto.

He only just missed out on making the squad for Euro 2016 and his presence in the centre of midfield for Burnley could prove crucial in keeping the club in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old is likely to go straight into the starting line-up for Saturday’s home clash against Liverpool and the new arrival is eager to get going in the English top flight.

“I hope I can bring my experience to the team and the club to stay in the Premier League,” the Belgian said.

“I’m looking forward to every game. “The atmosphere around the league is fantastic and everyone across the world has seen the Premier League, so I am very proud to be a part of that.

It is a new challenge for me, but I like that.” Sean Dyche’s men lost their opener 1-0 at home to Swansea City and face a tough task to get the better of a Liverpool side that pulled off a thrilling 4-3 win at Arsenal on Sunday.

The Clarets are 5/1 outsiders to win this weekend, the draw is priced at 3/1 while the Reds are the firm 8/15 favourites to make it two victories on the spin.
