Tottenham face an anxious wait to find out the severity of the injury suffered by Harry Kane in the win over Sunderland.

Kane scored the only goal at White Hart Lane as Spurs defeated the Black Cats to climb into third spot in the Premier League table.

The England forward went off soon after with an ankle problem and Kane later left White Hart Lane on crutches. There are fears the 23-year-old could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines but boss Mauricio Pochettino is not jumping to any conclusions.

“We’ll see tomorrow how is his ankle,” Pochettino told Sky Sports. “I’m happy for him, but disappointed with his injury.

The image was a little bit tough, but we need to assess tomorrow. We hope it’s not a big issue for us.” Tottenham also lost Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele to apparent hamstring problems against Sunderland.

Dembele was making his return to the team after completing his six-game ban. The Tottenham boss insisted there was no significant in both players coming off with hamstring problems and he does not expect either Dier or Dembele to be out of action for long.

“Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier got cramps in their hamstrings,” said the Argentine. “It’s a coincidence. They will be available for the next few games.”

Tottenham’s win over Sunderland moved them above north London rivals Arsenal into third spot in the Premier League, four points adrift of pacesetters Manchester City. Spurs are 19.00 to win the title this season.
