Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino refused to blame the fact his side were playing at Wembley Stadium for the 1-0 Champions League loss to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.

Spurs are playing their home European matches at the stadium whilst White Hart Lane undergoes a re-development, but they have lost both their games at the venue this season, with Wednesday’s defeat following up a 2-1 loss to Monaco.

The north London club now face an uphill task if they are to qualify for the knockout stages, as they have taken just four points from their opening four matches, but Pochettino refused to blame playing at Wembley for their struggles.

“We can put a lot of excuses out now,” he said. “Maybe if I want to put excuses out I can say ‘yes [we do have a psychological block]’, but I don’t want to.

Tell me one place better in the world to play than here? It’s where football was born. If we don’t show the quality, it’s our fault.

“There were 85,000 people supporting us today. It’s embarrassing for me and the players too. For me, we must look at ourselves.”

Spurs will travel to the Stade Louis II to take on Monaco in their next European match before their final group game against CSKA Moscow at Wembley, and Pochettino insists his side must win both encounters to keep their Champions League dream alive.

“We must win [in Monaco], if not, forget Champions League,” he added. “We must win both games, if not, bye bye Champions League.”

Spurs are available at 10.00 to finish top of Group E while they are priced at 81.00 to win the competition.
