Gabriel Paletta admits it is early days for AC Milan but believes a Champions League place could be a possibility.

The Rossoneri have endured a miserable few seasons following a string of managerial changes but have made a decent start to the current campaign under new boss Vincenzo Montella.

Wins over Sampdoria and Lazio have helped them climb to sixth in Serie A and given rise to hopes of a potential return to continental football.

Sunday sees them travel to fellow European candidates Fiorentina and Montella will be desperate to see his side continue their current run against his former club.

Despite being sent off on the opening weekend, Paletta has established himself as first choice alongside Alessio Romagnoli in central defence, having spent last year on loan at Atalanta.

The 30-year-old admits that confidence is flowing through the dressing room and they now have their sights set on a return to European competition.

A top five would be a huge achievement for this Milan side, although Paletta believes they could even make the Champions League if they continue their recent upward curve.

“Are we happy with a Europa League place?” he told Corriere dello Sport.

“It’s too early to talk about anything else, but if after half a season we were to continue with the attitude and spirit of the last few games, then that could give us some satisfaction.

“Then maybe we could give a little thought to the Champions League…” The Rossoneri are 3.30 to win in Florence, with the draw priced at 3.25 and the Viola the 2.30 favourites.
