Sergio Aguero says he would not be surprised if he were to be dropped for Argentina’s next 2018 World Cup qualifier after admitting his international form is poor at the moment.

Aguero endured a torrid time as he missed a penalty for Argentina in their shock 1-0 qualifying defeat to Paraguay La Albiceleste, who are 8.00 to win the 2018 World Cup, have now slipped to fifth in the group and, as things stand, would have to go into the inter-confederation play-offs.

Edgardo Bauza’s men certainly need to pick themselves up next month if they are going to clinch one of the four automatic spots.

Aguero is unsure of his future place in the squad and admits being left out would not be a great shock because of his recent failings.

“No, because I’m not doing things right,” he said. “If I’m not in the next squad, I’ll take it in the best way.”

The 28-year-old has not scored in the last five qualifying matches for Argentina but his form for Manchester City has been sensational, having bagged 11 goals in eight games under manager Pep Guardiola.

Aguero will be looking to keep that run going for the Citizens when the former Premier League champions return to action at home to Everton on Saturday.

The hosts, who suffered their first league defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last time out, are the 1.44 favourite to clinch all three points, the draw is priced at 4.33 whilst the visitors are the 6.50 outsiders.
