Celtic winger Jonny Hayes says the Scottish champions aren’t expecting an easy ride when they head to Bosnia to face FK Sarajevo on Tuesday.

The Hoops begin their Champions League qualification bid this week and are the favourites to progress to the next round.

Celtic are 1.62 to claim a win on Tuesday, the hosts can be backed at 5.25 and a draw is 4.00.

Hayes is confident the Parkhead club will be able to overcome their first qualification opponents but he insists they will not allow complacency to creep in as they bid to reach the Champions League group stages.

“If you go over there and be too cocky you can come back home trailing 2-0 with no away goals,” he told the Daily Record.

“It’s a two-legged tie no matter the outcome of the first game. “You see that all over Europe, what happens when teams don’t take it seriously at that level. If you don’t prepare right.

“I wouldn’t call them strange results because it’s just one team being more prepared than the other. More often than not they deservedly go through.

“That preparation has been unbelievable with the amount of work the staff have done behind the scenes preparing for this pre-season, probably for the last nine months.”

Celtic missed out on a place in Europe’s top competition last year and reached the last 32 in the Europa League.
