Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon is adamant that his side will beat AEK Athens and progress into the play-off stages of the UEFA Champions League this week.

The Hoops have still got work to do after they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Greek outfit earlier this week.

Midfielder Callum McGregor handed Celtic a perfect start but they were pegged back just before half-time after Victor Klonaridis found a way through.

AEK lost Konstantinos Galanopoulos when he was sent off in the 57th minute but Celtic failed to take advantage and secure the win on home soil.

They will now travel to Athens on Tuesday and they head to Greece on the back of their 1-0 defeat to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.

Despite the setbacks, Gordon insists his team are confident of making progress in Europe.

He told Celtic TV: “It’s a massive opportunity for us to go and put in a good performance and try to get into the next round.

“We are slightly behind in the tie, so we have to go there and be very positive, and we definitely have the players who are capable and a team that is capable of going there and winning the game.

“That’s what we need to concentrate on now. All the focus is on trying to get through the next round.”

AEK are 2.75 to win next week, while the draw is 3.00 with Dafabet. Despite their recent results, Celtic remain 2.63 favourites to win inside 90 minutes.
