Manchester City playmaker Samir Nasri is confident his side can challenge for silverware again next season if they make a few key additions this summer.

City won the Premier League and League Cup in 2013-14 but failed to add to their trophy cabinet last season as they finished eight points adrift of Chelsea in second.

Nasri has been tentatively linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium but the Frenchman insists he expects to be a City player next term, and he is convinced they can – and will – secure titles.

The 27-year-old hopes boss Manuel Pellegrini can strengthen the squad during the transfer window but he says any new faces won’t push him towards an exit.

“I signed a five-year contract and everybody at the club wants me to stay,” he told FourFourTwo.

“I will be in Manchester, having a great season and winning silverware – that’s what’s going to happen next season.

“I think we’re going to buy some players to try to improve the squad, to improve the depth as well because if we want to be competitive in all the competitions, we need to have bigger depth in the squad.”

City fell in the first knock-out stage of the Champions League last season as they lost 3-1 on aggregate to eventual champions Barcelona, and Nasri hopes they can make a bigger impact on Europe next term.

He added: “If we want to be competitive in the Champions League, which is one of the main targets of the club, and if we want to fight for every competition, that’s what you need to do. That’s something that we’re going to improve in the summer.”

City open the new campaign at West Brom and they are 1.60 to take all three points and 3.75 to win the Premier League title outright.
