Sami Khedira has offered a parting shot at Real Madrid for the way he has been treated this season as he prepares to leave this summer.

The German midfielder will leave the Santiago Bernabeu on a free when his contract expires in June and has a host of top European clubs vying for his signature.

That is despite a series of injury setbacks and a lack of playing time this season, with Khedira making just three La Liga starts and eight appearances as a substitute this term.

But the 28-year-old has hit out at the club for exaggerating his injury problems, claiming he has been frozen out of the club after contract talks broke down earlier this year.

“I did have a small injury, a pain in my right heel, but that wasn’t why I wasn’t playing,” Khedira told Marca. “It wasn’t a complicated injury. I was able to play.

“I’ve always felt that I’ve had the coach’s backing but the message indirectly came through to me that I was no longer needed, I was frozen out and wouldn’t have a chance to continue playing. It’s not the end that I wanted.

“It hurts that I’m accused of a lack of professionalism because I’ve always put the team ahead of myself. I’ve always gone with the truth.”

Khedira, who joined Real Madrid from Stuttgart in 2010, was not included in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the final league match of the season on Saturday – a 7-3 win over Getafe.

“Nobody from the club said anything to me directly,” he added. “It’s all feelings, incidents and comments saying I wouldn’t play any more.

But nobody approached me. What has happened this season has hurt me to the bottom of my soul.”

According to the latest reports, Khedira will not be short of options this summer with Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal all showing interest in the World Cup winner.
