Everton forward Romelu Lukaku has admitted Roberto Martinez lost the dressing room before he was sacked as manager earlier this month.
Martinez was relieved of his duties at Goodison Park following the 3-0 defeat to Sunderland in the club’s penultimate game of the Premier League season.
The Toffees only won two of the Spaniard’s final 12 matches at the helm, and his three-year tenure was brought to a premature end even though he guided the club to the semi-finals of both domestic cup competitions during the campaign.
Belgium international Lukaku revealed the club’s end-of-season form was not good enough and confirmed Martinez lost the dressing room during the latter part of his reign.
Lukaku said: “The team did not perform at all. We won two of our last 11 games. When things are broken between the manager and the players, it become difficult.”
The 23-year-old also indicated that he could leave the Merseyside club this summer, but he refused to drawn on where his future lies.
He added: “In my head, I know where I want to go but I’m keeping that to myself. You will know when it is concluded. I have to make a good choice but in my head that has happened already.”
Everton finished 11th in the Premier League standings this season and they will be looking to improve on that showing during the next campaign.
