Real Madrid are sweating over the fitness of Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese superstar picked up a hamstring injury at the weekend.
Ronaldo sustained the injury during the second half of Saturday’s win over Almeria and although it is not thought to be serious, it is unclear exactly how long he will be out for.
The former Manchester United star underwent scans on Monday morning when an injury was detected and the Real medical staff are now waiting to see how he reacts to treatment.
A Madrid medical statement read: “After the tests taken today by Cristiano Ronaldo by the Real Madrid medical services in the Sanitas La Moraleja hospital, an injury has been detected in the back of the left thigh. Pending developments.”
Ronaldo is a huge doubt for Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Galatasaray when Real could seal their place in the last 16 of the competition.
Carlo Ancelotti will not take any risks on the player for fear of making the injury worse and he will also be touch and go for the La Liga clash with Real Valladolid on Saturday.
Ancelotti will be keeping his fingers crossed it does not turn into anything more serious as Ronaldo has been in outstanding form this season when firing home 35 goals in all competitions.
