Real Madrid could be without Gareth Bale and Luka Modric for their Champions League quarter-final second leg clash against Atletico Madrid after both picked up leg injuries against Malaga on Saturday.
World record signing Bale has been struggling with injuries in recent weeks and he was left out of last weekend’s game against Eibar because of muscle fatigue.
The Wales international played the full 90 minutes of Tuesday’s 0-0 first leg against Atletico, but then lasted only four minutes of the 3-1 win against Malaga before being replaced by Javier Hernandez after going to ground holding his left calf.
Bale’s former Tottenham teammate Modric was also forced out of the game on 57 minutes because of a right knee problem and both players will undergo respective scans on Sunday to determine the extent of the damage.
Madrid spokesman Emilio Butragueno said they were “concerned” about both players looking ahead to the game against Atletico at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
He said: “It’s a bad moment for Bale to get hurt. We will have to see what the tests say.
“And Modric also worries us. When we only have four days before the quarterfinal return leg, it’s not good news.”
Real coach Carlo Ancelotti does expect to have striker Karim Benzema fit for the game, despite him sitting out the Malaga game because of a knee injury.
Real Madrid are 1.80 to win the second leg in the 1×2 market, while Atletico are 4.50 and the draw is 3.50.
