Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has confirmed that Karim Benzema will miss Sunday’s La Liga clash with Leganes due to a hip injury.
The France international sustained the problem during Los Blancos’ surprise 3-3 draw with Legia Warsaw in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old scored in Poland but Zidane has now confirmed the forward will play no part in Sunday’s league match at the Bernabeu, although the injury is not believed to be too serious.
“Karim will not play tomorrow. He has some problems after the game in Poland,” Zidane said.
“He’s noticed something in his hip area, we’re not sure what it is, we’re going to see. It’s just a slight niggle, we’re not going to risk a player who has some sort of slight injury.”
The news is not all bad for Real on the injury front, as Zidane went on to confirm that Luka Modric will return to the squad after he missed the last seven games due to a knee injury. “Luka Modric is with us, he is in the squad,” the Frenchman added.
“He may have some minutes, let’s see. The important thing is that he’s okay, he’s completely recovered from his injury, that is the most important thing for me and everyone.”
Real are available at 1.10 to secure a victory over their city rivals while Leganes are priced at 26.00 and the draw is on offer at 12.00.
