Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling is confident Leroy Sane will soon secure a regular run in the first-team after settling at the club.

The youngster signed from Schalke in the summer but failed to secure a regular spot in Pep Guardiola’s side in the first few months of the campaign.

After struggling to find regular football, Sane then suffered a hamstring injury which hampered his progress at the Etihad Stadium.

However, he showed signs of his potential on Sunday as he scored during the 2-1 win over Arsenal at home.

Sterling scored the winner against the Gunners and the England international is expecting Sane to kick on in the near future.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “For him, not starting at the beginning of the season does not help but he’s getting back into it now and I’m really happy for him.

“Hopefully he can now kick on. Before the game I said to him, ‘if I had a shot like you I’d be shooting every minute and no one would be able to take the ball off me’.

“I said, ‘if you get a chance, just shoot’ and he got his goal so I’m really pleased for him.”

Sunday’s win helped City move up to third in the league table and Sterling insists he is excited to see what the squad can do in the coming months.

Guardiola’s men are yet to play in the FA Cup and they also qualified for the Champions League knockout stages earlier this month.

City’s main target will still be the league and they are 4.50 to win the title in 2017.
