Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez says defender Sergio Ramos will remain at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu next season where he will be an “integral part” of the squad.
Ramos has been the subject of much speculation this summer, with the player apparently keen to move away from the Spanish capital.
Manchester United launched a bid of £28.6million for the Spain international in June but there has been little movement since.
Benitez, speaking from Melbourne where Ramos is part of Real Madrid’s pre-season tour of Australia, says he expects the 29-year-old to be at the club next season.
“For me, he is an enormous professional. In person, he applies himself; he does everything that the team and I ask of him,” Benitez said of Ramos.
“And for me, the matter [is that] the president has already commented that he is staying with the club.”
Ramos has made more than 300 appearances for Los Blancos since arriving from Seville in 2005, winning three La Liga titles and the Champions League along the way.
Benitez is confident he will be around to help the capital club try and wrestle the Spanish title from Barcelona in the new season.
“I have spoken to him at length in the summer about his ideas, about his future. I see Sergio as an integral part of our team, he’s a winner and that’s what we need in our team,” the former Liverpool boss added.
Real Madrid are 2.40 to win the La Liga crown next season with Barcelona 1.67 and Atletico Madrid available at 15.00.
