Tottenham Beat Chelsea to Advance in Carabao Cup

Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur side came from behind to beat Chelsea on penalties to move into the next round of the Carabao Cup in the match played at the new White Hart Lane Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Timo Werner scored in the first half of the game to give Chelsea the lead with a fierce low shot, and the blues took the lead into halftime.

Chelsea were 7 minutes away from qualification into the next round before Erik Lamela equalized for Tottenham Hotspur to put the game into a penalty straight after 90 minutes.

Mason Mount missed the deciding fifth spot-kick from Chelsea after all other takers had scored theirs on both sides.

Tottenham Hotspur got a bye into the next round after Leyton Orient couldn’t play the previous round game against the Spurs after some of their players tested positive for coronavirus with the game been called off, which allowed Jose Mourinho’s men to move into the next round without kicking a ball.

Chelsea, on the other hand, got past Barnsley 6-0 in the first round of the competition.

In other matches of the EFL Cup Carabao cup that will be played on a Wednesday, Newport County will be hosting Newcastle United.

Manchester City will be playing against Burnley at the Turf Moor, in other matches to be played in the Carabao cup also on Wednesday would see the Everton and West Ham United while Brighton would host on Manchester United.

On Thursday, Brentford and Fulham would play, and Aston Villa will host Stoke City; Liverpool and Arsenal would face off together on Thursday as well at the Anfield stadium.

It will be the 2nd time in many days that both sides will be playing after Liverpool 3-1 win over Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.
