Joe Gomez says Liverpool hope to back up their Champions League success by claiming the Premier League title in the 2019/20 season.

The Reds landed Europe’s top prize as they overcame Tottenham Hotspur in the final in Madrid but missed out on Premier League glory.

Manchester City claimed a second successive Premier League crown as they finished just one point above Liverpool, with the title fight running until the final day of the campaign.

Defender Gomez is convinced Liverpool can challenge for the title in England again next term and he says ending their wait for the Premier League crown is their number one goal.

“We can be happy and proud of the achievement [of winning the Champions League] but we’ve got so much more work to do and so many ways to improve as well,” he told the club’s official website.

“The Premier League was so close and I think that’s all the motivation we need, that we were so close but so far at the same time in the fact that we didn’t get it.

“It’s something we want to get this year and to do so we can’t get complacent or dwell on what happened last season, we have to hit the ground running again now.”

Liverpool are 3.40 to win the Premier League next season and City are the 1.62 favourites. Spurs are rated at 15.00 to claim the title, Manchester United are available at 21.00 and Chelsea are 23.00.
