Adam Lallana is confident Liverpool will respond to their disappointing 2-0 defeat at Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday.
The Reds were beaten in Serbia as Milan Pavkov scored twice in seven first-half minutes, with the Premier League side unable to find a way back into the game. Midfield playmaker Lallana accepts his side were not clinical enough with their chances but is confident they can bounce back.
“We had chances and we came out at the start of the second half which was better, but we weren’t ruthless enough and we weren’t patient enough,” Lallana told the club’s official website.
“Of course there will be a reaction. It’s not the first time we’ve lost games and it’s about how you react and how you bounce back but we are thoroughly disappointed to come away with nothing.”
Liverpool are still top of Group C but now face a challenge to reach the knockout stages.
The Reds travel to Paris Saint-Germain in their next European match and then host Napoli in the final round of fixtures.
Just two points separate the Anfield club and Red Star in fourth spot but Lallana says they remain confident of reaching the last 16.
He added: “We knew it was going to be completely different to the game at Anfield a fortnight ago but it wasn’t to be.
It wasn’t like us. We need to move on and improve if we are going to go through to the knockout stages.”
Liverpool are 10.00 to win the Champions League outright, with Premier League rivals Manchester City the current 4.75 favourites.
